Unit 2 Population and Migration
For the Migration Test Review answer sheet click here.
November 14, 2014
Homework:
Population Project:
We will bump the due date back one day to Thursday, November 6th.
Please download the project outline and project template.
Some hints:
Do a google search for the population pyramids.
For the DTM data, look at this website: http://www.unicef.org/statistics/index_24183.html You can click the hyperlink and create a customized data table with the countries you need. Or, click on "Country Statistics" to the left and click on individual countries. I saw that for CBR and CDR, it only gives like 1970, 1990, and 2012, but that's generally good enough for half of the countries. I saw that data for Afghanistan, and that would basically create a comprehensive DTM because it would be a stage 1 before that point, but with other countries this data won't be sufficient. Hunt online for the data. Do your best, but we'll bump the date and see what people have been able to find and spread helpful tips in class.

Step 2: Open up the word document below. Your task will be to work either by yourself or with a partner to answer all questions on the word document. Just type in your answers between the questions already on the document.

Use these Power Points and pdf's to study for your Unit Exam.
Click on the "Chapter 1 Thinking Geographically Vocabulary" document below. Download it, and in the third column, your assignment is to write in an example OR draw a picture demonstrating that key term. In Human Geography and especially for the AP Exam, it is important to be able to apply the terms we learn to real-life examples.
For example, a functional region exists for Orioles Country, or the area where Orioles baseball fans are the majority. Camden Yards, where the Orioles play in Baltimore, serves as a node. As you move away from this node, closer to Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, or Pittsburgh, you leave the functional region of the Orioles. These other cities have their own baseball teams, or other nodes, and as you travel from Baltimore to one of these other places, Orioles fans will no longer be the majority, but rather the Phillies, Nationals, or Pirates fans would be. So, the example for the term functional/nodal region would be something along the lines of: "Orioles fans country as a region, Camden Yards/Baltimore serves as the node."

To find the ecological zones for your continent maps, just search "biomes" on google, this one took 3 minutes to find. It also provides a view of what ArcMap, a major GIS program looks like when displaying several layers. And here is the link to the original webpage so you can look at a larger resolution so you can zoom in for detail.
